Begin outside Taourirt Kasbah and look at the earth-built towers, decorated upper walls and the relationship between the kasbah and its historic neighbourhood. Ask about the areas currently open before buying admission. A local guide can help explain what you are seeing.
Continue across to the Cinema Museum, next to the artisanal complex. Its sets and film objects introduce another side of Ouarzazate: a city where built heritage and screen landscapes meet. Keep the two stops together rather than spending your day in transfers.
Wear shoes suitable for uneven ground. Carry water and a hat, and leave time for a city-centre lunch. Ask permission before photographing residents, shops or private spaces.
